The Met office put out a “level three” alert which is triggered when conditions deemed dangerous to health are reached.
It came as London was today expected to see the hottest day of the year at 32C and the country was experiencing its fifth consecutive day of 30C plus temperatures - the first prolonged heatwave since 2006."
