Events for adults at the Geffrye this January

Start the New Year with a visit to the Geffrye!
Tuesday - Sunday, 10am - 5pm.  Free admission.

2014 is a very special year for the Geffrye as we celebrate two major anniversaries: the tri-centenary of the opening of the almshouses for London's poor and elderly, and the centenary of the conversion of the almshouses to the museum. The museum first opened its doors to the public on 2 January 1914, so to celebrate we have 10 copies of our guidebook to give away in January. Simply present this email at our shop to
 get your free copy.
Evening Event : Who Once Lived in My House?
Wednesday 29 January, 6.45pm
Display and 20th century period rooms will open at 6pm
Tickets £7.50/£5 concessions (includes a glass of wine)
Join us for an evening talk with Professor Catherine Nash and Dr Caron Lipman from the School of Geography, Queen Mary, University of London, as they share fascinating insights into a project exploring the often hidden or forgotten histories of people's homes. Please book to reserve a place.
Free Display: Who Once Lived in My House?
Until Sunday 9 February in Lower concourse
Coins, buttons, and beads dropped through floorboards. Names and dates written on walls or scored in plaster - just some of the everyday ways people are reminded of their home's past occupants. This small display shows the different ways history is present in homes, and people's reflections on their homes as places where others once lived.
NEW: Browse prints from the Geffrye's collection
We are delighted to be in partnership with leading print-on-demand company Magnolia Box to offer professional quality reproductions of 100 selected paintings and prints from the Geffrye's collection.
