NEW £10 MILLION LONDON ARTS CENTRE OPENS IN FINSBURY PARK

Fine arts consultancy John Jones is pleased to launch its new building in Finsbury Park, London. The Arts Building, opening to the public on 5th June 2014, incorporates a new public art space, an artist studio and a café.

Working alongside world-class artists, the John Jones Art Building will also support emerging artists through a vibrant arts programme, including residencies, art prizes and educational activities. Cassandra Needham, formerly of Nottingham Contemporary and the Whitechapel Gallery, has been appointed curator of programmes. The project space will open with a new installation by Dublin-based artist Teresa Gillespie that will approach the sensuous and intrusive space of touch through mixed media, forming an immersive environment that simultaneously appeals to and repels the visitor

John Jones is also delighted to announce their first Artist-in-Residence will be Ruth Proctor, a Hackney-based artist. Proctor, who starts in July will be resident artist for six months’ and will have use of the Artist’s Studio in the midst the heart of The Arts Building, the residency will culminate in an exhibition – or series of events – in the Project Space. Ruth Proctor, who initially trained as an ice-skater works across media and plays with themes of time, space, and rhythm.

The new John Jones Arts Building in Finsbury Park designed by David Gallagher Associates, will provide an exhibition and project space for talks, seminars, workshops as well as meeting areas for clients to discuss the presentation and conservation of art with John Jones experts. The John Jones Arts Building will also include extensive studio space for frame design, collection care, research and conservation work.
john Jones was established in London during the 1960s as a traditional framer. Today, this family-run company, which has grown into a fine arts consultancy with framing at the core of its business, produces up to 1,000 museum-quality frames per month for institutions, collectors, designers and individuals.

Michael Craig Martin, artist, says:
"I have been working with John Jones for many, many years. These new developments - to include collection management and a project space for exhibitions - are a great addition to the current framing and fabrication services. The new building is the culmination of John Jones' past and on-going success as a centre for art and artists.”

Kate Jones, Business Development Director at John Jones, says:
“John Jones is continuing to grow, and the launch of this new space reflects very exciting developments, including a diverse arts programme with exhibitions, residencies and educational activities. The project space and café will create a real creative hub for public engagement, unprecedented in the history of John Jones and also contributing to Finsbury Park’s growing arts community”.
