A former fort on the River Thames which dates back to the 19th century has gone on sale for a cool £500,000.

The bomb-proof building, which can only be reached on foot across a sandy pathway when the tide is out, was originally installed as a military tower to protect the Chatham and Sheerness dockyards.

Developers estimate the highly unusual property, dubbed No. 1 The Thames, needs about £1million worth of work to make it liveable."
