Description
Our “ Secret Gardens of London Tour “ is an exclusive and private guided tour designed for garden lovers, parks aficionados and lovers of flowers. If you have seen quite enough of Big Ben etc. then this tour which takes you to some of London’s hidden beauty spots may be just what your heart yearns for! Private tour ( less than 6 people )and we are transported by one of London’s iconic black cabs from garden to garden!

The tour starts at St. Martin in the Fields Church ( front steps ) on Trafalgar Square and from there, we visit the nearby St. Paul’s Artist Church designed by the talented Inigo Jones with its adjoining rose garden. From there we head up to the delightful Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London’s largest square designed in the early 17th century. Adjacent is the amazing John Soane’s Museum, home to many beautiful things including some lovely garden statuary. Soane was a Victorian architect ( eg. Bank of England ) and his design genius is apparent in his eclectic house. He was also a dedicated collector of antiquities. A short walk away and we are into the law courts and the Temple gardens, where we find the shaded fountain made famous by Charles Dickens ( from his book Martin Chuzzlewit ).

We then head for the fascinating Garden Museum on the other side of the Thames, complete with 17th Century knot garden. Here we pause for refreshments in their very nice cafe. Next, we visit the famous Chelsea Physic Garden established in 1673 where they have a marvellous selection of apothecary plants and flowers – and more. The Garden is unique in London and has a fabulous assortment of medicinal plants, etc.

We are now more than ready for a proper English High Tea at one of London’s finest tea rooms, which is normally at the Orangerie, Kensington Palace. After tea, we explore the gardens including the new and lovely sunken garden there. We conclude our tour by returning guests to Trafalgar Square, or guests can depart directly for their hotel if they wish.
