Young entrepreneurs turn disused London phone boxes into mobile charging stations - London - News - London Evening Standard

More on this story.....: "Two young entrepreneurs today unveiled a novel solution to breathe life into London’s disused phone boxes by transforming them into mobile charging stations.

Since the advent of mobile phones the capital’s thousands of phone boxes have become largely redundant - except to tourists looking for a photo opportunity.

Two London School of Economics graduates hope they have come up with an answer to the problem by installing solar panels and charging equipment so that people can charge their phones and other mobile devices using green energy.

The solar-powered service is free, but in return for battery juice, a screen shows users adverts while they are waiting for their smartphone to charge.

The first Solarbox - backed by Boris Johnson - was unveiled on Tottenham Court Road today [Weds] outside the Dominion Theatre."
