Visit the Geffrye at its most magical time of the year
The Geffrye's annual celebration Christmas Past opens on Tuesday 25 November when each of our 11 period rooms will be authentically decorated, giving visitors an evocative insight into how Christmas has been celebrated in English homes over the past 400 years. There will be an exciting programme of free seasonal events for all ages, festive food in thecafé, and a variety of Christmas gifts in the shop. Come and be merry!

Thursday 4 December, 5 - 8pm. Free.
Enjoy Christmas Past by candlelight, listen to festive music, learn about seasonal entertainments, or bring children to a decoration-making workshop. Find an unusual gift in the shop or enjoy a festive supper.

Saturday 6 December, 10.30am - 12.30pm and
2 - 4pm. Free.
Learn how to create magic tricks to amaze your friends in our festive workshop. There will also be an all ages sing-along to Christmas carols at 2pm and 3pm.

Be inspired by the craft of crochet, which was practised by the almshouse residents in the 19th century, to create contemporary seasonal decorations including stars, snowflakes and baubles.

Join us for the Geffrye's own traditional burning of the holly and the ivy, with carol singing, stories about Epiphany and a taste of mulled wine and Twelfth Night cake. Please note that this event takes place in the garden, so wrap up warm! |
