Celebrating its milestone fiftieth year, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition showcases the beauty, magnificence and diversity of life on our planet, while also highlighting its fragility and the role photography can play to preserve it.

Deep sea litter news
Rubbish including food packaging and fishing gear were found in the deep sea by Museum scientists visiting some of the remotest parts of the ocean. Discarded items found more than 1,000km (600 miles) from the coast reveals the truly global impact of human activities.
