Man finds unexploded Second World War bomb in his shed in south London

Houses were evacuated in south London today after a man discovered an unexploded Second World War bomb in his garden shed.
The two foot-long artillery shell sparked a safety alert after it was found at about 11.45am this morning in Hartfield Crescent, Hayes.
Residents and workmen were advised to leave houses in the quiet residential street while specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police dealt with the explosive.
Officers said the shell was taken away for disposal and the area deemed safe by 1pm.
In March, the lives of hundreds of people were disrupted after a huge Second World War bomb was unearthed by builders in Bermondsey.
People living within a blast zone of hundreds of metres were shut out of their homes before it was removed and destroyed in a controlled explosion in Kent.
