New Malden burst water main causes flood outside station

A burst water main has caused flooding outside a south-west London station. Commuters posted pictures of themselves wading through water outside New Malden station on Thursday evening. Police and London Fire Brigade attended the scene and the station was temporarily closed.
Thames Water said the flooding was caused by a burst water main on Coombe Road and apologised to customers.
It said the leak was shut off at about 01:30 BST on Friday morning and water had been pumped away.

A Thames Water spokesman said: "Our engineers shut off the leak at 1.30am and our customers' water supply has returned to normal.
"We are now helping the water drain away using pumps and tankers before we begin a clean up."
Local road closures are in place while repairs are carried out.
