Our most ambitious exhibition to date, Cosmonauts: Birth of the Space Age, supported by BP, traces the dramatic story of Russia's yearning for space and the heroic achievements that turned this dream into reality. Showcasing the largest collection of Russian spacecraft and artefacts ever to be displayed outside Russia, this once in a lifetime exhibition captures the enormous cultural and historical impact that space exploration had upon the world. Visit Cosmonauts to re-live these pivotal events and experience the passion, ambition and human ingenuity that enabled mankind to explore the cosmos.

| Tereshkova launchesCosmonauts |
|
Our exhibition was formally opened by special guest Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman ever to go to space. Yesterday, she was reunited with Vostok 6, the capsule in which she returned safely to earth in 1963. She is pictured here with Ian Blatchford, the Science Museum's Director, Dame Mary Archer, Science Museum Chairman, Sir Tim Barrow, UK Ambassador to Russia, and Bob Dudley, BP's Group Chief Executive.
