Tower of London ice rink opens for Christmas on 1,000-year-old moat

There’s certainly an impressive novelty factor to skating on a 1,000-year-old moat - even more so when you whiz past a beefeater on it.
And Yeoman Sergeant Pete McGowran made the most of the Tower of London Ice Rink today as it opened for the Christmas period.
It will host 43 days of skating and is being operated by Cousins Entertainment, a firm founded by Dancing on Ice judge Robin Cousins.
The Olympic winner said: ‘You couldn’t ask for a more wonderful location to skate, so we look forward to seeing you there this Christmas.’
Jim Malarkey, the Tower's visitor services head, added: 'We look forward to welcoming visitors for a truly memorable festive experience.’
Tickets for sessions range from £12 to £14 for adults and the rink will be open every day apart from Christmas Day until January 3.
The rink has been installed a year after the moat was covered in 888,246 ceramic poppies in an installation to remember our war dead.
