Transport for London - Weekend travel information - 5/6 December 2015

weekly travel update to help you get around London this weekend, 5/6 December. Most of the network will be open with services running as normal, but please check if any of the following affect you.

Travelling during the festive season?
From Thursday 24 December 2015 to Sunday 3 January 2016, planned improvement works and service changes may affect your journey. There will be no service on the entire TfL network on Christmas Day, Friday 25 December. To make the most of London, plan ahead. For more information, please visit

London Underground


We are undertaking a comprehensive improvement programme across London’s transport network, including the modernisation of the Tube.

Central line
Tottenham Court Road station will be closed for station improvement work. From Monday 7 December, Central line trains will resume serving the station.

District line
Trains will not run between Aldgate East and Dagenham East. This is to allow for Crossrail work at Whitechapel and track replacement work at Stepney Green and Barking.

Hammersmith & City line
There will be no service between Liverpool Street and Barking. This is to allow for Crossrail work at Whitechapel, and track replacement work at Stepney Green and Barking.

Northern line
Tottenham Court Road station will be closed for station improvement work.




London Overground


There will be no service between Highbury & Islington and Shadwell. This is due to Crossrail work at Whitechapel and Network Rail work at Highbury Corner.

On Saturday, trains will not run between Surrey Quays and New Cross. This is due to Crossrail work at Whitechapel.

On Sunday, there will be no service between the following stations
Richmond and Willesden Junction, due to Network Rail track work
Sydenham and Crystal Palace, due to Crossrail at Whitechapel
South Tottenham and Barking until 12:00, due to Network Rail infrastructure work
Trains on the Chingford branch will not stop at Bethnal Green until 23:59, due to Network Rail track work

Buses


Bus users may be affected by the following this weekend. While we will try to maintain a good service, buses may be delayed or stop short of their normal destination:

South London - From 21:00 until 05:00 each night, until Monday 14 December, there will be overnight closures on Clapham Road in both directions, between The Oval and Stockwell Park Road. This is due to road resurfacing works.

Neasden - From tonight, Thursday, until Monday 7 December, there are various full overnight closures of the A406 between Staples Corner and Brentfield Road. Daytime lane restrictions are also in place between Brentfield Road and Neasden Lane, in both directions. Roads in and around Neasden and Wembley are busier than usual and delays are expected between Hanger Lane and Brent Cross. This due to Road Modernisation Plan works. Central London - From 14:00 until 17:00 on Saturday, Edgware Road will have various lane closures due to a march.

Elephant and Castle - From 05:00 on Sunday, the Elephant and Castle Roundabout will be removed and switched to two-way traffic, as part of the Road Modernisation Plan. The work will start at 22:00 on Saturday and temporary traffic changes will be in place until completed. There will be no left turn from Newington Causeway onto New Kent Road, no right turn from New Kent Road onto Newington Causeway and no U-turns will be possible at the junction. Central London - From 13:00 until 17:00 on Sunday, Park Lane will have various lane restrictions in place, in both directions. This is due to a march.

Central London - From 20:00 on Sunday until 06:00 on Wednesday 23 December, there will be various full overnight closures in both directions on Victoria Embankment and Upper Thames Street, from Westminster Bridge to Southwark Bridge. This is due to Cycle Superhighway carriageway resurfacing works.

Roads


Road users may be affected by the following this weekend:
