Somerset House - Summer Series 2016 Support Acts Announced

Summer Series at Somerset House with American Express® 2016
The Summer Series at Somerset House support acts are now announced. In previous years, these coveted slots have been filled by some of the most exciting artists populating the current musical landscape, alt–J, Songhoy Blues & Jessie Ware to name a few. This year the festival’s headline slots are complemented by an array of talented soloists and experimental bands.

Hailing from Africa and based in Sydney, Sampa the Great has set about making music that artfully combines her natural style and energy with thought-provoking, socially-conscious themes. She has won over a wave of adoring fans having been chosen to support Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat, Ibeyi and Little Simz along with her sold out headline shows and festival slots.

The Leisure Society was born out of the creative duo Nick Hemming and Christian Hardy. They have been recipients of considerable critical acclaim, being dubbed the English answer to Grizzly Bear and Fleet Foxes. Their debut single The Last of the Melting Snow, was honoured with an Ivor Novello nomination and Brian Eno cited their album as “beautiful”.

NME labelled Gallant as "the voice that will redefine R&B". His blend of future soul bridges contemporary production with old school song-writing. In 2016 he collaborated live with Seal and Sufjan Stevens and sold out his first two NY and L.A. shows. The first single from his debut album Ology was premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio show in the coveted “World’s First” segment.

Described by Metro as "instantly addictive warped funk pop", South London musician Jodie Abacus has been busy recording his debut album with an impressive line-up including Julio Bashmore, Tobias Jesso Jnr, Duke Dumont and SOHN. His new single co-written with producer Fred (Brian Eno, Ellie Goulding) She’s in Love with the Weekend is set to be released on 20 May.

Multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer Bill Ryder-Jones is a remarkable musician. His talents stretch to performing on stage with the Manchester Camerata, live guitar duties with Arctic Monkeys, and a producer to several up-and-coming bands. On his third album West Kirby County Primary, recorded in his childhood bedroom, Ryder-Jones explores “turning stories into beautiful truth” and sets it to glorious molten melodies.

His disarming vocals, genre hopping rhythms, haunting backing vocals and instrumentation, which references the likes of Paul Simon and Gustavo Santaolalla, all come together in his self-written and self-recorded debut album El Dorado.

Singer-songwriter JONES brings a fresh take on a classic style, blending polished electronic sounds with raw, organic elements, echoing her modern musical loves. Fresh off the back of her TV debut onLater…With Jools Holland, the 25-year-old East Londoner has gained acclaim from the likes of Sam Smith and Calvin Harris with material taken from her debut album New Skin, due out later this year.
