Open House Junior The family activities programme of Open House London 17 & 18 September 2016

Time to explore the city and build your future skyline!

Inspiring the next generation of Londoners about the great buildings of their city, the Open House Junior programme is full of fun architectural activities and exploration trails for children and their families. The free event is located at various Open House venues across London, such as City Hall and St Mary Axe Plaza, hosting a range of activities across the weekend.

Highlights include: City of a Thousand Architects at City Hall, where children can plan, design and build a future London skyline from the heights of London’s Living Room; Build a View Shaper outside the ‘Gherkin’, using the surrounding sculptures as inspiration to create a framed view of the City; Scale Up the City! at RIBA, where children aged 8+ can create large scale drawings of key London buildings; and Build Your Own Pavilion at the Serpentine Pavilion, where Young Architects can create their own 3D pavilions and enter them into a competition. Over the weekend, many other Open House buildings will also be hosting drop-in activities and exploration trails for children and their families across London.

There will also be an engineering treasure hunt /competition run across the weekend by Structurally Found, encouraging young people to tweet or instagram photographs of elements on this year’s engineering elements hit list.

Open-City want to make the Open House London weekend accessible and fun for all ages, as our director, Rory Olcayto, says, ʻThe more of us who participate in debating, shaping and mending the cities we live in, the better they will be, and the more reflective of our communities they will be too.

All activities are drop-in and free-of-charge, however, times and age suitability vary. Further details can be found on our website (www.openhouselondon.org.uk/junior) or the Open House listings directory (http://listings.openhouselondon.org.uk/).
