Battle of Britain Memorial Flypasts
On 10 and 11 of September, subject to weather conditions, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be conducting a flypast over our London site at approximately1.35 pm.

The flypast will feature the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Lancaster on Saturday 10 and the Flight's Spitfire on Sunday 11.

Do come along to see both flypasts from the Museum's Helipad 10 minutes before the Flight is due - or why not spend the day with us exploring our galleries?

Roald Dahl as a Young RAF Airman
Roald Dahl's War - 17 Sept
To celebrate Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday, historian Graham Laurie will be looking at Dahl’s fascinating career at 2.00 pm on 17 September, in the Museum's Lecture Theatre.

Graham will trace Dahl's facinating life story from leaving school, his employment with Shell and his first overseas post in East Africa, to his life in the RAF and finally, to his becoming a writer in a captivating talk that celebrates the great man.

Admission is by ticket only, which may be purchased here at £5 per person.

Johnny Kent - One of the Few
One of the Few - 17 Sept
We are very proud to announce that Alexandra Kent, the daughter of Johnny Kent, will be onsite to sign the latest edition of her father's biography - 'One of the Few'.

This revised hardback edition includes unpublished letters, diary entries and other writings by ‘Johnny’ Kent as well as previously unseen family photographs. ‘One of the Few’ also features an informative and moving introduction and epilogue by Alexandra Kent, which presents the father she knew: a complex hero who bore the hidden scars of war.

The event which will start at 11.00 am will conclude with a showing of Tomasz Magierski’s acclaimed documentary ‘303’ which features interviews with Alexandra Kent and many others connected with the most successful Fighter Command Squadron in the summer and autumn of 1940.

Join us at the Defence Photo School
Behind the Lens of RAF Photography - 24 Sept
We are delighted to offer Museum Members and those considering joining our Membership Scheme the opportunity to attend a talk on the history of RAF photography led by Flight Sgt. Andy Malthouse and and an exclusive tour of the Defence School of Photography at Cosford.

The trip also includes a private visit to the archives and the opportunity to have lunch in the Officers Mess. But hurry places are going fast.

Tickets for this event retail at £20 for Members and £25 for Non-Members. The event starts at 11.30 am. Participants should meet at the Defence School of Photography at RAF Cosford. Full joining instructions will be sent to participants at time of booking.

Now and the Future
Air Power : Now and the Future
On 29 and 30 September we will be hosting a two day conference in conjunction with the Royal Aeronautical Society where we will be examining the strategic importance of air power both now and in the future.

The Conference will be held at both sites, with the Museum hosting the conference on 29 and the Royal Aeronautical Society on 30.

Sessions will include 'Understanding the Impact of Surveillance on Behaviour and its Potential Implications for Air Power'  and 'Hypersonic Designs and Strategic Strike'  with a keynote address given by Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier KCB CBE DFC MA RAF.

Tickets for this two day conference may be purchased directly from the Royal Aeronautical Society and retail at £165 + VAT Non Members, £130 + VAT for Museum Members.

Our Spitfire Experience now runs daily from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Better yet, there is no need to book in advance. Just make your way to our Mk16 Spitfire in Historic Hangars and select the 15 minute slot that you would like your tour. Nothing could be easier.

Prices for each tour are £10 per person, and include a 15 minute talk about our Mk16 Spitfire and its control panel from one of our experts, whilst you sit in the cockpit. Photography is encouraged!
