Nightspot Cinema & The Funk & Soul Weekender Launch Party 24th Feb

Jackie Brown meets James Brown for one very special event at Nightspot Cinema’s The Funk & Soul Weekender Launch Party.

Nightspot Cinema will be screening Tarantino’s terrific Blaxploitation masterpiece Jackie Brown, followed by an epic 70’s funk and soul immersion party. Expect serious music, as Brassroots will be playing LIVE hits from funk legends Funkadelic right through to the Godfather of Soul himself, Mr Brown.

The theme is Blaxploitation movies, so don’t be surprised if you bump into Shaft while you're slicing up the dance floor. And funky dress is recommended, if you’re down… As George Clinton would say, “the desired effect is what you get when you improve your interplanetary funksmanship...”

Let’s funk shit up.
Nightspot Cinema is proud to be featured in this years The Soundcrash Funk and Soul Weekender wherein we are on a bill alongside huge names such as, “George Clinton, Seun Kuti, Huey Morgan, Mr Scruff, Norman Jay, DJ Yoda, Taylor McFerrin, Alice Russell, Renegade Brass Band and Craig Charles!”

Jackie Brown is a 1997 American crime thriller film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The film, Tarantino's third feature-length production, is an adaptation of Elmore Leonard's 1992 novel Rum Punch. It is the first (and to date, only) film that Tarantino has adapted from a previous work, and stars Pam Grier in the title role. The film pays homage to 1970s Blaxploitation films, particularly the films Coffy (1973) and Foxy Brown (1974), both of which also starred Grier in the title roles

About Brassroots
Brassroots is the 7-piece brass and percussion ensemble credited with establishing the current brass band scene in London. The band is on track to change the way you experience and appreciate live music as they bring an incredibly real and challenging sound back into mainstream music by presenting pop, R&B, funk and soul hits in their own unique and unforgettable Brassroots style.

About The DJs
Dom Servini has been filling dance floors since the early 1990s with his beautifully blended, open minded mix of music steeped in soul, jazz and funk. From the early days of his Brighton residency with DJ Snowboy, his infamous late 90s Mouseorgan club events, to a decade and a half DJing under the Wah Wah 45s banner, Dom has become something of a clubbing institution.

Russ Ryan is a Soul Boy & Hip Hop head from Bermuda raised on a diet of Soul and Jazz, teeth cut in Brighton on Hip Hop and Rum and now he is digging and spinning records from London to the World. He is a regular at The Doctors Orders, Higher Ground, Tuckshop, Cirque Du Soul, Glastonbury and beyond.

What is being said about Nightspot Cinema
“Nightspot Cinema are a collective who have hit on a simple, genius idea. Everyone knows that when you watch a film with an amazing soundtrack, you leave fiending to go and dance to the sounds on screen. So nomadic cinephiles Nightspot have done the obvious-  they've planned a series of screenings of films with iconic soundtracks, followed by DJs playing music from and related to the film” Ransom Note
