Strawberry Hill - Happy birthday, Horace! Celebrating the tercentenary of Horace Walpole's birth at Strawberry Hill House.

Horace Walpole’s 300th birthday

You are invited to celebrate the tercentenary of Horace Walpole, Strawberry Hill House & Garden’s creator and most famous owner, this year at his famous Gothic castle, with special events to mark the anniversary of the ‘man of letters’.

All funds raised from these events will support the ongoing maintenance of the House and Garden.

Strawberry Hill is honoured that Sir David Attenborough is joining us to read from Everyman Library's newly re-issued Selected Letters of Horace Walpole. 

Come and hear Britain’s best-loved voice reading the wit and wisdom of Strawberry Hill’s founding father, complemented by a rich repertoire of early music from period ensemble FOLLIA.

Holbein and Ramsay Facsimiles Arrive
The Return of Holbein and Ramsay Portrait Facsimiles to Strawberry Hill

175 years after being sold, an Allan Ramsay portrait and 33 George Vertue reproductions of Hans Holbein portraits are unveiled at Strawberry Hill House, made possible by cutting-edge 3D printing technology. Visit us to see these paintings, part of Walpole's original collection, now back in place.

Horace's Grand Birthday Picnic

Horace Walpole’s birthday is 24 September and to celebrate the main event a 'Grand Birthday Picnic' will be thrown for the local community in the garden, which will be open to anyone to attend. The event will be free for the local community and you can register your interest on Facebook.
