Midnight Mary is a 1933 American Pre-Code film directed by William A. Wellman that reveals in flashbacks the hard life of a woman on trial for murder.
Penniless and with a checkered past, Mary (Loretta Young) falls in with the crooked Leo (Ricardo Cortez), who uses the unwitting young woman as a pawn in his crimes. Lovestruck lawyer Tom (Franchot Tone) helps Mary go straight, but a jealous Leo comes after the attorney in a murderous rage. Mary, in order to save Tom, is forced to gun down Leo. She is then put on trial, but, afraid of mixing Tom up in the sordid case, she refuses to mention his involvement, which could seal her fate.
Tickets are £6 and can be purchased from Billetto, or direct from the Museum by calling 020 7840 2200 during office hours.

Kennington Talkies presents; Woman of The Year (1942) Sunday 2nd July @ 2:30pm
Woman of the Year (1942) is an American romantic comedy-drama film starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, written by Ring Lardner, Jr., Michael Kanin and John Lee Mahin, directed by George Stevens and produced by Joseph L. Mankiewicz.
Tess Harding (Hepburn) is a progressively-minded political journalist. Sam Craig (Tracy) is a sports writer with very traditional values. The only thing the two have in common is that they both work for the same New York City newspaper. Despite an initial and mutual dislike, the two eventually fall in love and get married. When Tess wins the Woman of the Year award, traditional gender roles become flipped and their relationship suffers as a result.
Tickets are £6 and can be purchased from Billetto, or direct from the Museum by calling 020 7840 2200 during office hours.
Fighting Proud, Tuesday July 4th @ 7:30pm

Stephen Bourne presents an entertaining and informative illustrated talk about some of the gay men who are featured in his latest book, Fighting Proud – The Untold Story of the Gay Men Who Served in Two World Wars.
Fighting Proud includes the stories of many servicemen as well as the wartime experiences of Quentin Crisp, bandleader Ken ‘Snakehips’ Johnson, PC Harry Daley, Noel Coward and the film director Brian Desmond Hurst.

Advance tickets are £8.50 (concession £6.50) and can be purchased from Billetto or direct from the Museum by calling 020 7840 2200 during office hours.
Kennington Noir presents; Caged (1950) Wednesday July 5th @ 7:30pm

This noir title was a hit when shown at the BFI Flare LGBT Film Festival in 2014. The Flare programme described it as “arguably the best of the women in prison films and well known to the queer cinephile”.
Caged (1950) features a tour-de-force performance from Eleanor Parker as naïve 19-year-old inmate Marie whom we watch growing from a scared innocent girl into a hardened, criminally savvy woman as she spends more time inside the prison walls. The catalyst for Marie’s change is sadistic Matron Harper (brilliantly played by Hope Emerson), who uses her corrupt autonomy to terrorise inmates whilst selling protection and favours to others who can pay. Both Parker and Emerson were Oscar nominated for their performances in this film.  Find out more here

Tickets are £6 and must be purchased in advance.  This can be done either via Billetto (below) or direct from the Museum by calling 020 7840 2200 during office hours.
