Strawberry Hill House & Garden - Festive Greetings from Strawberry Hill House & Garden

Festive Greetings from
Strawberry Hill House & Garden
We have had an incredible year here at Strawberry Hill House & Garden celebrating Horace Walpole's 300th birthday year, and as we close for the Christmas holidays and head to the New Year, we wanted to share just a few of our highlights from 2017.

We celebrated the launch of the new Everyman's edition of Horace Walpole's Selected Letters edited by Stephen Clarke. Thanks again to Jamie and Julia Korner who generously supported this.

The Strawberry Hill Music & Fun Day returned once again in July, we hosted nearly 8,000 guests and saw some fantastic activities including: Live Music, Tours of Strawberry Hill House, Fairground Rides, Street Food and Strawberries & Cream. Since it was first held in 2006, the Strawberry Hill Music & Fun Day has raised over £110,000 for Strawberry Hill House.

Sir David Attenborough joined us in September and again in December along with local school girl Millie Beazley and FOLLIA. Here is a Teaser Film from the night, please feel free to share!
Alan Titchmarsh joined us in September to open Strawberry Hill's Woodland Walk, which was recently redeveloped. Following this, Alan hosted our very own 18th century-style Tea Garden, reading extracts of wit and wisdom by Horace Walpole, edited from Walpole's book On Modern Gardening and his 7,000 letters.
Our friends from The Lewis Walpole Library, Farmington, Connecticut, a research centre for eighteenth-century studies and an essential resource for the study of Horace Walpole and Strawberry Hill, celebrated their annual Walpole Wallow meeting at Strawberry Hill House on Horace Walpole's birthday.

We finished off the Birthday weekend with a community picnic in the garden. Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us.
Thanks to Lynn & Jim Fitzwater and The Radcliffe Trust we have been able to recreate Walpole's Tribune altar, as part of our ongoing replica programme.
To mark the arrival of the facsimiles of the Court of Henry VIII, the noted writer and historian Alison Weir talked about her new book Six Tudor Queens. Alison discussed her brand new creation with the faces of Henry VIII's court looking on.
The Strawberry Hill Christmas Fair in partnership with The DecorCafe was another great success and we saw over 3,000 attendees enjoy the many festive treats on offer. You can see many of the images from the day here. Look out for the The DecorCafe Home & Garden Festival at Strawberry Hill House in May 2018.
