The Citi exhibition
Arctic: culture and climate
28 May – 23 August 2020
Our next major exhibition will look at life in the Arctic. Far from the inhospitable hinterland it is often imagined to be, the Arctic has been home to rich cultures for nearly 30,000 years.
The objects in this immersive show will range from 28,000-year-old mammoth ivory jewellery to modern snow mobiles, revealing the resourcefulness of indigenous peoples in the Arctic.
The exhibition is a timely reminder that what happens in the Arctic will affect us all. It will look at the dramatic loss of ice caused by climate change, and how it is testing the adaptive capacities of Arctic communities and threatening their way of life.
