Meet our towering new arrival  We're thrilled to announce a very special arrival at Whipsnade Zoo as we welcomed a baby giraffe calf - just in time for World Giraffe Day on 21 June! The adorable reticulated giraffe calf was born on Monday 17 June to proud mum Ijuma and dad Bashu. Join in the celebrations for World Giraffe Day at Whipsnade Zoo (21, 22 and 23 June) or London Zoo (21 and 23 June), for a weekend filled with activities to celebrate our tallest residents. Conservation Corner Whipsnade Zookeeper hand rears Extinct in the Wild chick An extinct-in-the-wild sihek chick (also known as Guam kingfisher) has successfully hatched, marking a key milestone of an ambitious project to return the species into the wild. This is a huge step forward for the Sihek Recovery Program, which is a project involving wildlife experts from all over the world - including Whipsnade Zoo - working together to restore a wild population of this species.
