The enthralling Blavantnik Art, Film and Photography Galleries at IWM London feature work from the portfolios of renowned photographers displayed alongside our extensive, diverse and era-defining art and film collections. 

Showcasing the experiences and innovations of photographers, artists and filmmakers, these galleries explore the complex tension between creativity and destruction and provide a vivid account of modern war.

The over 500 artworks chosen for display reflect the seismic social, cultural and political changes across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and the individual perspectives of their makers. 

Explore work by Olive Edis, one of the first women in Britain to build a freelance photography career, one of the UK's hardest working Second World War photographers, Cecil Beaton, celebrated photojournalist Tim Hetherington and more.

Telling the Story of Conflict Through Photography

What role does photography play in documenting, recording and memorialising pivotal moments in conflict history? And what responsibilities does this role carry for the photojournalists themselves?
