Youth, Objects and Identity - Exhibition and Event
3 May to 4 June
Burgh House's Learning and Access Officer Maria Gomez-Diez is working in partnership with The Winch to deliver a program of art, craft and performance-based workshops to 12 - 18 year olds based on the concepts of identity and community resulting in this exhibition, created and curated by the young participants.

A Collection Unwrapped

Burgh House is the proud home of Hampstead Museum, founded by the late Christopher and Diana Wade in 1979. Now holding over 4000 items, we are beginning to fundraise to reinterpret and redisplay the permanent collection.This exhibition offers us the opportunity to involve you in these plans, and find out more about our ideas for a new museum. We also invite you to tell us how you would like to see the collections displayed, and what information you want to see alongside them. |

John Ridley

John Ridley’s exhibition of recent works will mainly focus on life drawing but will also include portraits, abstracts and still life. John attends weekly life drawing sessions at the Mall Galleries and some of these sketches will be included together with paintings worked up from them. He receives commissions for dog portraits, some of which will be on show. There will also be several marine sculptures made from driftwood and pebbles.

Journalist and producer Piers Plowright chats with BAFTA award-winning English character actress Gemma Jones as part of the Burgh House Lifelines series of talks. Gemma graduated from RADA with the Gold Medal and has become a well known face on television, stage and film. Join us for an intimate evening, with a supper including wine available after the talk.

Song Recital

Long-established duo John Barker (baritone) and Helen Cawthorne (piano) present an attractive and accessible programme of art songs in English from the first eight decades of the twentieth century, featuring composers William Alwyn, George Butterworth, Samuel Barber, Rebecca Clarke and Ivor Gurney, setting poets including Yeats, Housman, Masefield and Edward Thomas.

Larry Kaplan: American Folk Music Performance

Burgh House is delighted to welcome back highly acclaimed American folk singer and song maker Larry Kaplan for an evening of original and traditional American folk song. London Chinese Brush Painters

An exhibition of works painted using traditional Chinese equipment on paper and silk, with subjects mainly of landscape, flowers and birds. They present for you a show with traditional style that captures the spirit and charms of Chinese painting. The group meet monthly in Ealing under supervision of professional Chinese Brush tutors. |

Mizuta Trio

The award-winning Mizuta Trio is fast emerging as an exciting young ensemble. Amongst them ranks the talented Sheku Kanneh-Mason, BBC Young Musician of the Year 2016. The Trio has been gaining increasing recognition as a creative and accomplished group, appearing on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune and giving performances at St. John's Smith Square, St Martins-in-the-Fields and Oxford's Holywell Music Room. The Trio will be performing an all-British programme including works by Moeran, Bridge and Berkeley.

Connections: Women, Art and Networks

Curated by Museum Intern Emily Spary as part of the series of exhibitions on the first-floor landing of the House, Connections: Women, Art & Networks considers how several of the collection’s female artists are tied together through their art, study and neighbourhood. The display looks at two networks through a selection of works from our collection stores including watercolours, sketches and an oil painting.
