SECOND WORLD WAR AND THE HOLOCAUST GALLERIES OPENING 20 OCTOBER 2021
The V-1 flying bomb was a fundamental part of Britain's experience of the Second World War. Over 10,000 of these 'Doodlebugs' were launched at London and other British cities, killing over 6,000 people.

But it is also an important part of the Holocaust story. Many thousands of concentration camp prisoners, labouring in appalling conditions, died making these weapons in Nazi Germany.

The V-1 used to hang in IWM London's iconic atrium, but it is now suspended between the new Second World War and The Holocaust Galleries, as a striking symbol of how the Holocaust and the Second World War are interconnected.

We are excited to announce the ground-breaking Second World War and The Holocaust Galleries will be opening at IWM London on 20 October 2021

It will be the first time a museum has had dedicated Second World War galleries and Holocaust galleries under the same roof. By bringing these together, it will change the way people understand this history for generations to come.
With more than 1,500 collection items and stories from over 80 countries, the Second World War Galleries will, for the first time, tell the global story of this devastating conflict, alongside the British experiences.

Also on display will be 2,000 photos, letters, artworks and personal objects, which tell the individual stories from some of the six million Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust.

IWM London’s Second World War and The Holocaust Galleries open on 20 October. Entry is free, but we recommend pre-booking a timed slot ticket.

Book your ticket from 14 May, or become an IWM member for priority booking.
