Wine Tasting Wed 7 August, 7pm

Everybody associates the summer heat with a perfect day in the park or – if you’re lucky – at the beach sipping an ice-cold white watching the sun go down. That's perfectly fine, but have you ever thought about reds which are fit for a nice chill and glug to beat the heat? This is exactly what we'll be exploring – don’t let the summer make you miss out on your fix of red wine! This wine tasting is hosted by Jeroboams Hampstead. Tickets: £30

Yoga with Em Multiple Dates

Local yoga teacher, Em, is back for two summer classes at Burgh House. On Thursday 8 August at 9.30am, join her for a restorative, slow-flowing class which gently mobilises the body and relaxes the mind. Suitable for students of any age and experience who wish to practise gently and unwind fully. On Sunday 11 August at 9.15am, an uplifting, slow-flowing class, uniting breath and movement to explore areas of tension and deeply relax mind, body, and soul. Bouzouki Recital: Chris Christodoulou Sun 4 August, 2pm

On a summer's afternoon, the sounds of bouzouki music will fill the air as Chris Christodoulou performs works by J.S. Bach, traditional bouzouki music, and some new music written especially for the instrument. "The Greek bouzouki is a long-necked fretted musical instrument from the pandoura/pandouris family, dating back to ancient Greece. Also called a trichord/trichordo, because it had three strings, is the first known fretted instrument. A source of our knowledge about this instrument is the Mantineia marble (4th Century BC) depicting the mythical contest between Apollo and Marsyas, where a muse is playing a pandouris seated on a rock. In Byzantine times it was called a tamboura, and can be seen in wall paintings and sculptures.    The name bouzouki comes from the Arabic word bozuk, meaning ‘broken’ or ‘modified’. Stable metal frets were added, replacing the mobile (animal gut) frets. Mechanical keys were also added, instead of the wooden tuning pegs. The low string was used mainly as a drone string. In the 1950s, a fourth set of strings was added, and the four-course (tetrachordo) bouzouki started to gain popularity." Tickets: £15

Echoes of the Clarinet: Debussy to Rautavaara Sun 25 August, 2pm

Praised for “great sensitivity”, British-Australian clarinetist Kristina Newton and Swedish pianist Joel Slott visit Burgh House as they embark on their first UK tour. Bringing to life a diverse range of classical styles and eras, the programme consists of several micro-worlds of thought and emotion. Beginning with the atmospheric Sonatina from New Zealand composer Douglas Lilburn, the musical journey traverses the groovy rhythms of Muczynski and repertoire staples such as Debussy’s Première Rhapsodie. This performance also forms part of the European premiere of leading Australian composer Paul Dean’s Lockdown Miniatures. Tickets: £13.50 / £7.50 for under-16s

Gavin Greenway and Caroline Dale: New Music for Cello and Piano Fri 6 September, 7pm

Gavin Greenaway is a British Emmy ® award-winning pianist, composer, and conductor with an extensive catalogue of achievements: Conducting over 100 feature film and television soundtracks, composing for major entertainment and cultural events, Musical Director and conductor for The World Of Hans Zimmer Live recently perfoming to sell out stadiums across Europe and the release of two beautiful solo albums. Caroline Dale has appeared as concerto soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the London Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. A member of the Nigel Kennedy Quartet and the Balanescu Quartet, as well as a founder member of the Apollo Piano Trio. Caroline’s credits include the solo cello music for the films ‘Hilary and Jackie’, ‘Truly Madly Deeply’, and Dario Marianelli’s ‘Pride & Prejudice’ and his Oscar-winning score to ‘Atonement’.  Tickets: £18

Hampstead Photographic Society 24 July to 11 August

The Hampstead Photographic Society continues with its exhibition at Burgh House to present an overview of new work from the Society’s talented membership, with many of them showcasing previously unseen and recently completed works. The exhibition features 60 original works of art created by enterprising photographers employing a range of technology and covering the full spectrum of subject matters from local to far-flung; including creative imagery, portraiture, wildlife, landscapes, urban scenes, abstracts, travel, and the natural world. Established in 1937, the Hampstead Photographic Society is northwest London's premier photographic club for anyone with an interest in photography, from beginners to professionals. The Society meets every week, sometimes via Zoom and sometimes in the Crypt Room of St. John’s Hampstead from September to June. New members are welcome at any time.
