The A to Z of London - Open Weekend at Museum Depot
Join us at our Museum Depot in Acton, London on 23 and 24 April to celebrate 100 years of the iconic London Underground font, created by calligrapher Edward Johnston in 1916. The Depot is home to trains, buses, maps and signs, and activities at the Open Weekend include themed workshops, steam printing, calligraphy demonstrations and workshops, tours, talks and family fun. Tickets cost £10 (kids go free).

Open Weekend activities celebrating the Johnston typeface
The Johnston typeface was created by calligrapher Edward Johnston in 1916 for the London Underground. At the Open Weekend you can see the original wooden printing blocks carved by Johnston, take part in a calligraphy creating workshop, listen to a talk about fonts through history and see a giant steam press create new works of art.

Family Fun at the Open Weekend
Visit our family zone and create a woodblock stamp to make fun lettering artwork, enjoy the soft play zone or join an object handling session for kids. Little ones can also have a jump on a bouncy bus, take a ride on a miniature railway, or go on a family tour.
