Worshipped as a god since ancient times, Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) was the very first mutant from the X-Men universe, with his ability being to amass the powers of other mutants, leading to his immortality and cementing his legendary status.
Now, after several millennia, he awakens in a very different world - one that he despises.
He immediately sets about recruiting an army of powerful mutants, headed up by the equally disillusioned Magneto (Michael Fassbender) with the aim of destroying the world as we know it, replacing it with a new one he will rule.
As Earth braces itself for what looks like certain destruction, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) and Professor X (James McAvoy) lead the opposing mutants into an almighty battle with Apocalypse in a bid to save mankind.
But, how do you stop a supposedly unstoppable, invincible being?
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) proved that, despite being seven films in, the X-Men franchise was showing no signs of slowing down. The film was the series’ most critically-acclaimed release as well as the highest grosser, taking over £500m at the global box-office.
Bryan Singer returns to the director’s chair once again, and Academy Award Winner Jennifer Lawrence (Joy) returns as Raven, whilst the brilliant Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) plays the almighty Apocalypse.
Support comes from several rising stars, including Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road), Olivia Munn (Zoolander 2) and Evan Peters (American Horror Story).
