Nelson, Navy, Nation | Opens 21 October - Trafalgar Day
From bustling dockyards to ferocious sea battles, the new Nelson, Navy, Nationpermanent gallery brings to life the tumultuous 18th century, exploring how the Royal Navy affected lives afloat and ashore, as it became a central part of society and turned sea-faring heroes into national celebrities.
Gallery opens on Trafalgar Day, a day of celebration and events at the National Maritime Museum - join curators for special gallery tours, delve into the Caird Library to look at manuscripts from those in the Georgian Navy, discover Nelson's relationshipwith two particular woman, sing sea-shanties with the New Scorpion Band and partake in a pub quiz about the great battle.
There are also a series of lectures taken place in the coming months connected to the gallery, discussing the British Navy and the wider context of British society at the time.

Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2013

The Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition and exhibition continues to showcase incredible images from amateur astrophotographers. The winners were announced on 18 September and all of them gained worldwide attention following the news.
You can now see these images in incredible detail at the Royal Observatory Greenwich until February 2014.
