The Environment Committee will quiz London Assembly experts and the Environment Agency today about whether the capital is sufficiently equipped to deal with future rising water levels and flood threats.

Experts from the Environment Agency, the National Flood Florum and the London Assembly will answer questions on the sustainability of London's flood defences and the capital's readiness to react in an emergency."

London lifeboat station busiest in UK and Ireland | London - ITV News

London lifeboat crews saved 372 people last year, 25 of whom would almost certainly have died without the intervention of a lifeboat.

Annual statistics on the deployment of lifeboat crews reveal that Tower station near Waterloo Bridge was the busiest in the whole of the UK and Ireland last year, with crews called out almost 500 times."

Skateboarders battle to save South Bank skate park | London - ITV News: "Hundreds of skateboarders have been at Lambeth Town Hall, to deliver 30 boxes of objections, in the next stage of their battle to save the skate park on South Bank.

The area has been used by skateboarders for decades, but there are proposals to turn it into retail units.

However, campaigners say that almost 95 thousand people have signed up to oppose the plans."

Nigerian-born, award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie writes novels, short stories, essays and poem. Her fiction works include Americanah (2013), Half of a Yellow Sun (winner of the Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction 2007), andPurple Hibiscus.

The Bridge Commission marks the opening of the new Serpentine Galleries and takes visitors over the Serpentine Bridge on a journey between the two sites in Kensington Gardens. Twelve new original works written by established and emerging voices from around the world will be available one per month as downloadable files through September 2014.
