New Year's Eve 2012 Fireworks | www.london.gov.uk

New Year's Eve 2012 Fireworks | www.london.gov.uk: "The Mayor is supporting free travel on all TfL services from 11:45pm on New Year’s Eve until 4:30am on New Year’s Day.

There will be significant changes to regular tube and train services and you may have to use different routes or station entrances with specific queuing arrangements. Please plan your journey both to and from the event and follow directions from stewards, police or rail and tube staff on the night."

New Year's Eve 2012 Fireworks | www.london.gov.uk: "The show

From 10pm, a live DJ will be playing hit tunes, party classics and new sounds in the run up to midnight.

As the clock strikes 12, Big Ben’s famous ’bongs' will be relayed across all viewing areas, before the UK’s biggest annual fireworks display launches from the EDF Energy London Eye to a specially created musical soundtrack.

Once the fireworks come to an end, join together with friends and strangers alike for a massed rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

The party will then carry on until 12:45am with a second live DJ set. Stay to the end and you’ll avoid the worst of the station queues too!"

New Year's Eve 2012 Fireworks | www.london.gov.uk

New Year's Eve 2012 Fireworks | www.london.gov.uk: "New Year’s Eve in London is great - but it’s also really busy so plan ahead. Think about:

Travel plans before the fireworks
Where you want to be at midnight
Your journey home
No ordinary night

Each year around 250,000 people come and watch the Mayor’s midnight fireworks display on the banks of the Thames. The best viewing areas fill up about three hours in advance, and the areas around the river are always packed with people. Before deciding to head out you should consider how long you are prepared to stand around outside waiting for the display to start.

A great place to be

London is still one of the best places to be on New Year’s Eve. Pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs are open well into the night across the city. However, most pubs and clubs are ticketed entry on the night, so if you haven’t booked in advance you may find it difficult to find somewhere to enjoy a drink or eat both before and after the event."

Celebrate the end of London’s year like no other and welcome 2013 with a bang, watching the Mayor’s spectacular, free New Year’s Eve fireworks.

The night skies will be a blaze of light and colour on Monday 31 December 2012 with a display of stunning pyrotechnics by the London Eye on the famous South Bank.
"Our New Year's Eve fireworks will cap a triumphant year for London. As we welcomed the world to the magnificent celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the glorious success of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, London was at its very best. From the thrilling sporting action to the breathtaking cultural celebrations, it has been an unforgettable year and I am immensely proud of the contribution that our Ambassadors made to that success. As we go into 2013 with a spectacular fireworks display I hope we can build on that energy and enthusiasm to make ours the best big city in the world."
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London

BBC Singers: Vaughan Williams Mass in G Minor and Tudor Motets

One of the great glories of the English choral repertory, the Mass in G Minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams was composed in 1921 for unaccompanied double choir and four soloists. The piece was pioneered, in liturgical performance, by the founding conductor of Westminster Cathedral choir, R R Terry, who also made it his life's work to revive the sacred repertoire of the Tudor period. This BBC Singers a cappella concert in St Paul's Knightsbridge places Vaughan Williams' mass alongside some of the Tudor choral works which Terry brought back to life and to which Vaughan Williams pays homage in his music.

Programme:

Vaughan Williams Mass in G minor
Byrd Ave Verum
Terry Cradle Song of the Infant Jesus
Philips Hodie beata Virgo Maria
Terry Richard de Castre's Prayer to Jesus
Tallis In Ienuinio
Terry Sweet was the song the Vergine sange
Taverner Mater Christi

Date: Monday 14 January
Venue: St Paul's, Knightsbridge
Doors open: 1.15pm

To apply for tickets, visit the BBC Tickets Website.

We look forward to seeing you in our audience very soon.

Kind regards

Merry Christmas from all at Open Garden Squares Weekend

What an amazing year 2012 has been - a fantastic year to work from Duck Island Cottage, our HQ in St James's Park.  We were lucky enough to see rehearsals for the pageantry and splendour of the Diamond Jubilee.  We also saw some of the the build-up to the Olympics and Paralympics in St James’s Park and Horseguards Parade. Although we had to temporarily move out of our offices, we felt the the inspiring and (sometimes) jaw-dropping games were definitely worth the minor inconvenience.  And to top it all off, with your support, Open Garden Squares Weekend had its highest-ever number of visitors.

Next year

We are raring to go for 2013 and already working hard on securing some prestigious and exclusive gardens to open on 8 & 9 June. We'll be announcing new gardens in February and our e-zine readers will be some of the first to know.  For interesting snippets, tips and up-to-date information, don't forget to like us on Twitter and follow us on Facebook.

Know any gardens?

If you know of any gardens that might like to take part please do let us know.  We are looking for gardens that are not normally open to the general public but have a communal element.  Further information »
Thank you for your support in 2012 and we very much look forward to seeing you in 2013 - don't forget to put 8-9 June in your new diary!

Wishing you all a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas and New Year.
