The King's Stamp
8 February - 3 September 2023

See treasures from the museum’s collection and discover the story of definitive stamps, from the very first design to today, in a new exhibition at The Postal Museum.

This year, a new monarch will feature on stamps for the first time in 70 years. Be the first to see the new designs in person.

See some of the rarest and most valuable British stamps from the reigns of six monarchs and explore over 180 years of iconic design.

Find out how stamps and royal cyphers for letter boxes have been developed and produced and how monarchs have shaped their royal identity through these everyday objects.

Exhibition highlights include:

  • The first chance to see a sheet of Kings Charles III's definitive stamps.

  • One of only two sheets in the world of Edward VII ‘Tyrian Plum’ stamps.

  • Read original letters revealing past monarchs’ influence on stamp designs.

  • See your silhouette on a stamp and guess the cypher with hands-on exhibits.
