Wednesday 25 November 2015. The Christmas festivities in Greenwich begin with the local school children's hand made lantern procession and the switching on of the Christmas lights in Greenwich Market.

The procession will start at 4pm in front of the Discover Greenwich Visitor Centre at the ORNC and will wind its way to the Market.

The big countdown at 4.45pm will be with Sarah Jane Honeywell from CBeeBees and characters from this year's Greenwich Playhouse panto Red Riding Hood.

All can join in singing Christmas Carols, meet Father Christmas in his Greenwich Grotto and shop late through to 7pm.

Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Festival 2015: 27 to 31 August 2015

The Tall Ships are returning to Royal Greenwich for five days this August Bank Holiday, as up to 15 Tall Ships drop anchor for a maritime family festival at Woolwich Arsenal Riverside.

Admire the ships cruising majestically along the River Thames, be wowed by fireworks every evening after dark, and wave off the fleet from Greenwich on Monday 31 August from 2pm as the ships leave in an elegant parade.

During the festival, two impressive Tall Ships will be moored on Tall Ship Island in the river at Maritime Greenwich, open to visitors via MBNA Thames Clipper shuttles (see below for how to buy tickets):

Visit Tall Ships Island - Friday 28 to Monday 31 August

You can visit two of the biggest Class A Tall Ships - the Dar Mlodziezy and Santa Maria Manuela - which are moored on Tall Ships Island in the river off Greenwich.

Tickets are provided by MBNA Thames Clippers for a river trip from either London Bridge City Pier or Greenwich Pier on a MBNA Thames Clipper boat and an hour-long tour of the two stationary Tall Ships. You will get a chance to speak to cadets and hear from guides telling stories about life at sea and the rigging, history and navigation of the ships.

Please note, engineering works are due to take place over this weekend, so services will be running to and from London Victoria rather than Cannon Street or Charing Cross. Check times and departures with Southeastern before travel.

Join us on our Great Greenwich Pub Tour which runs daily, except for Sundays. We meet at the Sir Walter Raleigh statue, which is located just outside the northern ( ie. riverside ) entrance to the Greenwich Tourist Information Centre. Tour starts at 6 p.m. and we normally complete by 9:30 p.m. Each pub is unique and they range from the traditional local neighbourhood pub to the larger historic pubs such as the Trafalgar Tavern, on the River Thames.

At each pub, tour guests receive a complimentary half pint of ale and our tour pubs feature some very good organic and craft ales from all over the U.K. Great way to meet people with our convivial guide and a super way to experience this very British way of life. No children on tour please.
