The Olympic Torch at Opera Holland Park.     Thursday 26 July 12noon - 4pm Opera Holland Park We are very excited to announce that the Olympic Torch will be stopping at Opera Holland Park, just outside the theatre, on Thursday 26 July, the final full-day tour of the relay. The torch will be coming up from The Royal Hospital Chelsea, making a pit-stop at OHP to change torch bearers and then moving on towards White City, Trafalgar Square and Hyde Park for the concert that evening. It will receive a choral fanfare at Opera Holland Park from our chorus as it arrives and activities such as our famous 'Minute Maestro' and face painting by the OHP make-up department will take place. The torch will arrive sometime in the afternoon of 26 July, so if you plan on coming along please do arrive between midday and 1pm. More information will be sent nearer the time, so watch out for it and we look forward to seeing you there!

Dance Holland Park   Emerging Choreographers Showcase Saturday 7 July 2012 at 1pm Holland Park Theatre, Opera Holland Park Tickets: £5   English National Ballet and Opera Holland Park are presenting on the OHP stage, an afternoon of outstanding new dance work created by up-and-coming choreographers from English National Ballet, Union Dance, Combination Dance, Akademi and the Romanian Cultural Institute. This is a rare opportunity to see five new works by five exceptional choreographers in a mixed bill programme featuring ballet, contemporary and South Asian dance inspired by Opera Holland Park’s 2012 opera season. Holland Park London Parks to Visit

The Royal Borough’s largest park with 22.5 hectares of gardens, children’s play facilities, sports areas, a cafeteria and large areas of woodland abundant with wildlife. Contained within the park is the beautiful Kyoto Garden; a Japanese garden donated by the Chamber of Commerce of Kyoto in 1991

Holland Park is also the base of the borough's Ecology Service. The Ecology Centre at Holland Park runs a series of events, activities and educational visits and workshops for schools. We also run a wildlife club for children, holiday activities, and a full programme of events for all ages.

History

Holland Park is spread across 54 acres of what used to be the grounds of Cope Castle, a large Jacobean mansion hidden in the woods. It was built by Sir Walter Cope in the early 17th century, who became Chancellor of the Exchequer under King James 1. It was renamed Holland House after the Earl of Holland’s wife Lady Rich inherited the property.

Holland House was badly damaged during World War II. One wing was saved and is used as a youth hostel. A remaining section of the front terrace is now used as a distinct backdrop for the park's summertime open-air theatre productions and classical concerts.

Holland Park Kyoto garden was designed and built by an eminent Japanese Garden designer and his team to celebrate the Japan Festival in London in 1992. It was a co-operative project between the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the Kyoto Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
