This exhibition explores ten classic children’s books from the 20th century. Discover how illustrators over the years have interpreted – and reinterpreted – our favourite tales in beautiful and imaginative ways. Through original artwork, rare editions and personal correspondence, be reunited with much-loved characters including Paddington Bear, Peter Pan and Willy Wonka, and classic works such asJust So Stories, The Wind in the Willows and The Hobbit.

As a number of theatres across the country experiment with new takes on old ways of working, join Guardiantheatre critic Lyn Gardner and guests Laurence Boswell (director of the Spanish Golden Age Season, Ustinov Studio Bath), Laura Elphinstone (Royal Court Weekly Rep company), Richard Franklin (actor) and Professor Dominic Shellard (De Montfort University/Theatre Archive Project) for a lively debate.

RAMAYANA: RE-IMAGINED

The Ramayana is one of the world’s greatest epics. Throughout Indian history, authors and performers have produced diverse retellings of the story of the exiled prince Rama. Daljit Nagra, reading from his new Ramayana collection, is joined by storyteller Vayu Naidu and musician Ranjana Ghatak, for an evening of poetry and music.

The Young Dürer: Drawing the Figure

Discover the early figure drawings of the great Renaissance artist Albrecht Dürer.

The Young Dürer concentrates on the artist’s journeyman years (c.1490-96), during which he travelled widely and was exposed to a range of new influences.
