Traffic 'disaster' looms as Putney Bridge faces six months of repairs - Transport - News - London Evening Standard: "A threatened six-month closure of one of London’s busiest bridges will bring a traffic congestion “disaster” to much of the west of the capital, motorists were warned today.

Putney Bridge — the most heavily used Thames crossing west of central London — needs major repairs to its badly potholed road surface as well as to its main structure.

Wandsworth council, which is responsible for the 127-year-old bridge, wants the work to be done during one continuous closure in 2015 when only pedestrians would be able  to use it."
