In Britain, throughout the 19th century, coastal resorts were using the latest fashions in garden design and horticulture to attract ever-increasing numbers of visitors from the great towns and cities of the Industrial Revolution.
This introductory talk will serve to illustrate the Autumn Term's courses. On Thursday mornings, we venture to Europe to feature historic Spanish and Dutch gardens. On Thursday afternoons, we explore the themes of 19th century British garden design and horticulture.
