Here is our advice for getting around London during Christmas and New Year.
Much of the network will be open with most services running, but please check if any of the following affect you. | |

|
TfL services will run throughout Christmas and New Year. The main changes to our services on the key days are outlined below. For details of the services running each day, please visit our Christmas travel page.
Sunday 23 December - There are planned closures on the Metropolitan line, London Overground and TfL Rail.
Christmas Eve, Monday 24 December - There are planned closures on London Overground and TfL Rail. Last services on Tube and rail, Emirates Air Line and River services will be earlier than usual and buses will run until about midnight. Tube, DLR, buses and trams will run a reduced or Saturday service.
Christmas Day, Tuesday 25 December - There will be no service on Tube, buses, TfL Rail, London Overground, DLR, Trams, River bus, Emirates Air Line and National Rail, though Santander Cycles and some River tours services will be available.
Boxing Day, Wednesday 26 December - There will be no London Overground, TfL Rail or River services, and a planned closure on the District line Olympia branch. Emirates Air Line starts later and buses and trams will run a Sunday service. There will be a reduced service on London Underground and DLR. Some Bakerloo line stations may operate differently due to strike action.
Thursday 27 and Friday 28 December - There are planned closures on London Overground and TfL Rail. London Underground will run a reduced service. DLR, buses and trams will run a Saturday service.
Saturday 29 December - There are planned closures on London Overground and TfL Rail.
Sunday 30 December - There are planned closures on London Overground, TfL Rail and DLR.
New Year’s Eve, Monday 31 December – Travel will be free on TfL public transport from 23:45 until 04:30. There are planned closures on London Overground and TfL Rail. River services will close early. Tube, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail and trams will run special services overnight, and there will be changes to central London bus routes.
New Year’s Day, Tuesday 1 January - Road closures will be in place for the New Year’s Day Parade. Saturday and Sunday services will take place across the network. There are planned closures on the District line Olympia branch and London Overground. |

We do not expect services to run on the Central and Waterloo & City lines after 21:00 on Friday 21 December, if a strike by train operators goes ahead. Services on the Central line will resume from approximately midnight on Saturday 22 December for Night Tube. Waterloo & City line services will resume on Monday 24 December. Check before you travel and visit our Tube strike page for live information, in case the strike is called off.
From 00:30 on Saturday 29 until 05:00 on Monday 31 December, Central line services, including Night Tube on Friday and Saturday night, will not stop at Bank station. Please use nearby Liverpool Street station and walk or use local bus services to Bank. Alternatively, use the Circle line between Liverpool Street and Monument. Please note that there is no entry to St. Paul’s station during Night Tube service and no down escalator service at any time. |

On Sunday 23 December, there will be no service between Aldgate and Wembley Park before 09:30 and after 20:30. This is due to track replacement work. Use the Jubilee line between Baker Street and Wembley Park. Use the Circle or Hammersmith & City line between Baker Street and Aldgate. |

On Boxing Day, there is a strike planned affecting sections on the southern part of the Bakerloo line. If it goes ahead, Elephant & Castle, Lambeth North, Charing Cross, Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus stations may have to close at short notice, however the rest of the line will run a normal service. Further details on this strike action will be available on our Tube strike page closer to the date. |

On Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, there will be no service between Earl’s Court and Kensington (Olympia). Use bus route C1.

| • | No service between Edmonton Green and Cheshunt |
| • | Reduced service between Liverpool Street and Chingford. Trains will run every 20 minutes, not stopping at Bethnal Green, Hackney Downs or Clapton |
| • | Reduced service between Liverpool Street and Edmonton Green / Enfield Town. Trains will run every 20 minutes, not stopping at Bethnal Green, Cambridge Heath, London Fields or Hackney Downs |
| • | No service between Romford and Upminster |

On Sunday 23 December and Christmas Eve, and from Saturday 29 December until New Year’s Day, there will be: |
| • | Reduced service between Gospel Oak and South Tottenham. Trains will run every 30 minutes |
| • | No service between South Tottenham and Barking |
|
On Christmas Eve, we will run a normal service until midday on most routes, then a Saturday service will run, with services finishing early from around 21:30.
On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, there will be no service on London Overground.
On Thursday 27 December, there will be no westbound service from Stratford to Highbury & Islington until 06:30.
On Thursday 27 and Friday 28 December, an amended service will run on most routes. A reduced service will run between Gospel Oak and Barking. Trains will run every 15 to 30 minutes.
On Saturday 29, Sunday 30 December and New Year’s Day, there will be no service between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction.

On New Year’s Eve, a special late night or all-night service will run on some routes: |
| • | Between Highbury & Islington and New Cross Gate, every 15 minutes through the night |
| • | Between Willesden Junction and Stratford, every 15 minutes until 02:30 |
| • | Between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town (not stopping at Bethnal Green, Cambridge Heath, London Fields or Hackney Downs), every 30 minutes until 02:30 |
There will be free travel between 23:45 and 04:30 on all London Overground routes.
On New Year’s Day, we will run a Saturday service on most routes with first trains at approximate Sunday times. |

On Christmas Eve, we will run a Saturday service which will finish early from 22:00.
On Christmas Day, there will be no service on the DLR.
On Boxing Day, there will be a reduced service on all routes.
On Thursday 27 and Friday 28 December, a Saturday service will run.
On Boxing Day, Thursday 27 and Sunday 30 December, there will be no service between Bow Church and Stratford after 21:00. This is while Network Rail carry out improvements for Crossrail. Please use local buses for Pudding Mill Lane, or DLR services via Canning Town for Stratford.
The DLR will run a special all-night service on New Year’s Eve. Trains will run every 15 minutes on all routes from 00:30 until 08:00. From 08:00, a Saturday service will run. There will be free travel between 23:45 and 04:30. |

| • | A rail replacement bus service will run between Slough and Ealing Broadway, calling at Southall and Hayes & Harlington |
| • | Train tickets will be accepted on local buses for Acton Main Line, Hanwell and West Ealing stations |

From Thursday 27 until Saturday 29 December and on New Year’s Eve: |
| • | TfL Rail will run a reduced service between Paddington and Hayes & Harlington |
| • | Heathrow Express will run a reduced service between Paddington and Heathrow |
| • | Great Western Railway services will depart Paddington for Reading, stopping at Ealing Broadway, Southall and Hayes & Harlington every 30 minutes |

From Thursday 27 until Saturday 29 December, trains will not call at Acton Main Line, West Ealing or Hanwell. On New Year’s Eve, trains will not call at Acton Main Line.

From Sunday 23 until 12:00 on Thursday 27 December: |
| • | There will be no TfL Rail or Greater Anglia services between Liverpool Street and Shenfield while Network Rail carry out improvements for Crossrail |
| • | Rail replacement buses will run between Stratford and Romford (except Maryland) and between Newbury Park (which is now step-free) and Shenfield, calling at all stations via Chadwell Heath |

From 12:00 on Thursday 27 December until Tuesday 1 January: |
| • | There will be no TfL Rail service between Liverpool Street and Romford |
| • | There will be no Greater Anglia service between Liverpool Street and Shenfield |
| • | Rail replacement buses will run between Stratford and Romford (except Maryland) and Newbury Park and Romford via Chadwell Heath. Trains will run around every 15 minutes between Romford and Shenfield |

TfL Rail will run a special all-night service on New Year’s Eve. Trains will run every 15 minutes on all routes from 00:30 until 08:00, with free travel between 23:45 and 04:30. |

On Christmas Eve, we will run a Saturday service until 18:00. Trams will then run every 15 minutes on all routes until 20:00, when trams will run every 20 minutes until the last tram.
On Christmas Day, there will be no service.
On Boxing Day, we will run a Sunday service.
On Thursday 27 and Friday 28 December, we will run a Saturday service.
On New Year’s Eve, we will run a Saturday service. A special all-night service will run every 30 minutes between Wimbledon and Beckenham Junction / New Addington until the first tram lines on New Year’s Day. There will be free travel between 23:45 and 04:30.
On New Year’s Day, we will run a Sunday service. |

The Woolwich Ferry service is closed while we carry out works that will improve the service. For more information, visit our web page on the Woolwich Ferry upgrade.
Thames Clippers services will run to a different timetable over the Christmas season.
On Christmas Eve, Thames Clippers services will finish early from 19:30 at some piers.
On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, there will be no Thames Clippers services.
On New Year’s Eve, Thames Clippers services will finish early. The last stop at London Eye Pier will be at 15:19 to allow it to prepare for the fireworks. Services will stop calling at other piers from 18:45. |

The Congestion Charge will be suspended from Christmas Day until New Year’s Day. The daily charge will apply again from Wednesday 2 January.
Bus journeys will be impacted by timetable changes, planned road works and closures taking place during the Christmas season.
On Christmas Eve, we will run a Saturday service. There will be no night services and 24-hour services will finish around midnight. Day buses operate until normal last bus times. There will be changes to the 507, 521 and X68 day routes.
On Christmas Day there will be no service.
From 06:00 on Boxing Day, we will run a Sunday service including on 24-hour and night routes. Day bus routes will start at normal Sunday times.
On Thursday 27 and Friday 28 December, a Saturday service will run during the day, with a normal service on 24-hour and night routes. There will be changes to the 507, 521 and X68 day routes.
On New Year’s Eve, we will run a Saturday service, with changes to the 507, 521 and X68 day routes. There will also be changes due to New Year’s Eve celebrations. From 14:00, bus routes in central London will be diverted or stop short of their destination in preparation for the ticketed fireworks celebrations. If you travel by bus and are not planning on attending the event, begin your journey before 14:00 if you can, to avoid delays on your journey. All bus journeys will be free on the night between 23:45 and 04:30.
On New Year’s Day, we will run a Sunday service.
Central London – From 08:00 until 16:00 on Friday 21 December, a group will form up by the BBC at Portland Place for a demonstration. Large crowds are expected.
Central London – From 11:00 until 17:00 on Saturday 22 December, a large group of cyclists will form up at 11:00 on Tooley Street for a demonstration. They will then proceed to Whitehall via Borough High Street, Southwark Street, Stamford Street, York Road, Westminster Bridge, Bridge Street and Parliament Square. There may be road closures to help minimise disruption.
Wembley Stadium – From 12:00 until 19:00 on Boxing Day, Wembley Stadium will host the Premier League football match between Tottenham and Bournemouth, with kick off at 15:00. Large crowds and high traffic levels are expected in the Wembley area before and after the game. Roads likely to be affected are the A406, A1, A40, Harrow Road, Wembley High Road and roads around the stadium.
Wembley Stadium – From 12:00 until 19:00 on Saturday 29 December, Wembley Stadium will host the Premier League football match between Tottenham and Wolves, with kick off at 15:00. Large crowds and high traffic levels are expected in the Wembley area before and after the game. Roads likely to be affected are the A406, A1, A40, Harrow Road, Wembley High Road and roads around the stadium.
Highbury Corner – From 04:00 on Thursday 27 until 23:59 on Sunday 30 December 2018, there will be no access to Upper Street southbound from Highbury Corner. A signed diversion will be in place. Northbound access will be maintained on Upper Street. General traffic will be diverted via St Paul’s Road and Essex Road.
Bus routes 4, 19, 30, 43, N19, N41 and N277 towards Angel will be on diversion via Canonbury Road, Essex Road and Islington Green. Bus stop F will be relocated and will remain operational for the duration of the closures.
Chiswick – From 21:00 on Friday 28 December until 05:00 on New Year’s Eve, lane 1 of Chiswick High Road will be closed at the junction of Kew Bridge Road. This is due to Thames Water works.
Central London – From 12:00 on New Year’s Eve until 06:00 on New Year’s Day, there will be extensive road closures to help large numbers of people gather to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks. Closures will be implemented in phases. From 14:00, Bridge Street, Parliament Square, Whitehall, Millbank between Parliament Square and Lambeth Bridge, and Westminster Bridge and Victoria Embankment between Southwark Bridge will be closed. From 17:00, there will be closures around Chichley Street and Belvedere Road. From 19:00, Waterloo Bridge will be closed. From 20:00, closures will be implemented from Vauxhall Bridge Road to the west, London Bridge in the east, Oxford Street in the north and Elephant & Castle to the south. There may be further closures to the east between Tower Bridge and Southwark Bridge on both sides of the river. There may also be traffic control measures in place on Vauxhall Bridge leading up to midnight. Closures will be removed once people have left the area and a full clean-up operation has been completed.
Central London – From 03:00 until 19:00 on New Year’s Day, there will be various road closures in place for the New Year’s Day Parade. Large crowds are expected along the parade route. Road closures will be in place from 03:00, with Piccadilly eastbound closed from the underpass and Berkeley Square for the form up of the parade. The parade will travel along the following closed roads: Piccadilly eastbound, Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street, Waterloo Place, Pall Mall, Cockspur Street, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and into Parliament Square. Additional closures will also be in place for Shaftesbury Avenue, Haymarket, The Strand, Millbank and Victoria Street. The event will take place between 08:00 and 17:00, with roads reopening by 18:00 once it is safe to do so.
Rotherhithe Tunnel – There are increased restrictions for goods vehicles at Rotherhithe Tunnel. Goods vehicles that exceed these restrictions will be unable to access the tunnel and redirected by our enforcement officers. The maximum vehicle height is 2 metres (or 6’6”) and the weight limit is 2 tonnes. The width restriction is 2 metres (or 6’6”). Use Tower Bridge or Blackwall Tunnel, both of which are outside the Congestion Charging zone. For more information, visit our Rotherhithe Tunnel page.

Some sections of the East to West Cycle Superhighway (CS3) and the North to South Cycle Superhighway (CS6) will be affected by road closures for the New Year’s Eve celebrations. Please check for planned works and road closures which may affect your journey.
