Transport for London

TfL email update

Here is our weekly travel update to help you get around London this weekend, 15 and 16 December, and the following week.

Most of the network will be open with services running as normal so you’ll be able to get wherever you need to go, but please check if any of the following affect you.

TfL services will continue to run over Christmas and New Year, excluding Christmas Day. On New Year’s Eve, travel will be free on the Tube, bus, London Overground, DLR, TfL Rail and Tram services between 23:45 and 04:30. Timetable and service changes will affect journeys throughout the festive period. Plan and ahead and for full details, visit our Christmas travel page.

London Underground

Metropolitan line
On Sunday 16 December, there will be no service between Aldgate and Wembley Park before 09:30 and after 20:30. This is due to track replacement work. For travel between Baker Street and Wembley Park, use the Jubilee line. For travel between Baker Street and Aldgate, use the Circle line or Hammersmith & City line.

Piccadilly line
On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16, Hyde Park Corner will be exit only between 14:00 and 20:00. Please use other nearby stations instead. This is due to large crowds making their way to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park.

London Overground

On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 December, there will be an amended timetable between Gospel Oak and Barking. Trains will run every 15 to 30 minutes. For details of trains that will run on Saturday and Sunday, check before you travel on our status updates page.

A reduced weekend service will continue until further notice due to lack of available trains. We will continue to run a full timetable on the busier weekday service.

Supplementary buses will run every 30 minutes between Gospel Oak and Seven Sisters (for South Tottenham) and also between Walthamstow Central and Barking. Please use the Victoria line to connect between the two supplementary bus services.

Network Rail is carrying out work which will affect the following services:

On Sunday 16 December:
There will be no service between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town / Cheshunt (via Seven Sisters) until 10:15. Use Tube or local buses between Liverpool Street and Seven Sisters. Our Hopper farelets you make multiple bus journeys in an hour for free after your first payment. Rail replacement buses will run between Seven Sisters and Enfield Town/Cheshunt and between Hackney Downs and Chingford
Chingford trains will not stop at Bethnal Green until 23:59. Use Enfield Town / Cheshunt trains instead

Buses and roads

Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Oxford Street – Until 17:00 tomorrow, Friday 14 December, Oxford Street will be closed to eastbound traffic between Portman Street and Orchard Street. Westbound traffic will remain open. Local buses 94 and 159 will be diverted eastbound before returning to their original route.

Holborn – From 23:30 on Friday 14 until 23:59 on Sunday 16 December, New Oxford Street will be closed in all directions at the junction of High Holborn. This is due to a crane operation. Local buses 98, N8, N25, N98 and N207 will be diverted before returning to their original route.

Farringdon – From 06:00 on Saturday 15 until 22:00 on Sunday 16 December, Farringdon Road will be closed in both directions between Charterhouse Street and Greville Street. This is due to a crane operation. Local diversions will be in place. Local bus 748 will be diverted before returning to its original route.

Wembley Stadium – From 12:00 until 19:00 on Saturday 15 December, Wembley Stadium will be hosting the Premier League football match between Tottenham and Burnley, kicking off at 15:00. Large crowds and high traffic levels are expected in the Wembley area before and after the game. Roads likely to be affected include the A406, A1, A40, Harrow Road, Wembley High Road and roads around the stadium.

Putney – From 09:00 on Monday 17 until 17:00 on Tuesday 18 December, temporary traffic signals will be in use on Putney High Street at the junction of Montserrat Road, near the Exchange Shopping Centre. This is due to Thames Water works.

Rotherhithe Tunnel – There are increased restrictions for goods vehicles at Rotherhithe Tunnel. Goods vehicles that exceed these restrictions will be unable to enter the tunnel and will be redirected by our enforcement officers. The maximum vehicle height is 2 metres (or 6’6”) and the weight limit is 2 tonnes. The width restriction is 2 metres (or 6’6”). Use Tower Bridge or Blackwall Tunnel, both of which are outside the Congestion Charging zone. For more information, visit our Rotherhithe Tunnel page.

Check whether your bus is affected.
