Join the BBC Concert Orchestra, conductor Anna-Maria Helsing and violinist Jennifer Pike at Watford Colosseum for an afternoon of music by a selection of female and French composers.
Former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Jennifer Pike performs Saint-Saëns's Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, a virtuosic piece full of passion for violin and orchestra. One of the most prominent French composers of the interwar period, Roussel’s score for a one-act ballet, The Spider’s Banquet, is delicately evocative while his Petite Suite in three movements harks back to classical dimensions. Symphonic poems by female composers begin and end the programme led by Finnish conductor Anna-Maria Helsing. Susan Spain-Dunk explores the famous English landmark in Stonehenge, while French composer Augusta Holmes alludes to her Irish heritage with Irlande.
This concert will be presented by Fiona Talkington and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 for Afternoon on 3.
