1940s Noir with a Female Gaze, Wednesday 4th December @ 7pm
Shedunnit Productions presents 1940s Noir with a Female Gaze.
Saints, sirens, sinners, spinsters, sickos and the enduring femme fatale – 1940s noir had big issues with female representation. If you love the style, but hate the vintage values of this most mesmerizing of decades, join author Helen Jacey for a talk at the historic Cinema Museum, where she will put some famous noir movies under the spotlight. Helen will share her process in creating Elvira Slate, the first fictional 1940s feminist detective and explore some of the challenges of reinventing the 1940s from a contemporary and female gaze.
