Weekend travel information


If you are out and about over the weekend, there are lots of public transport options. There is some potential strike action also happening this weekend. You can find more details below.

In this hot weather, please carry water with you and ask for a seat if you feel unwell.

Strike information

 

Strikes affecting TfL services

There is planned strike action taking place on Thursday 18, Friday 19 and Saturday 20 August. Visit our website for more information.

Plan aheadcheck before you travel and leave more time for your journey.

Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 August

National rail strikes are taking place on these days that are expected to affect the entire national rail network. National rail customers are advised to only travel if absolutely necessary. 

The majority of TfL’s services will continue to run, but some disruption is expected on the following lines and areas:
  • Reduced service on the London Overground
  • Reduced service on the Elizabeth line
  • No service on the District line between Wimbledon and Parson’s Green, and Richmond and Turnham Green before 08:00 and after 18:00
  • No service on the Bakerloo line north of Queen’s Park
There are also strikes affecting some bus services on 20 August that will affect routes in west and southwest London and parts of Surrey. London Trams will also have a reduced service on 20 August due to strike action. Please check our webpage for more information.

Friday 19 August

  • Tube and bus strikes are taking place which will affect the majority of TfL’s services
  • In addition, there will be minimal service on the national rail network until around 08:00 following strike from the previous day
  • Customers are advised to avoid travelling on the Tube and only travel on the rest of the network if essential

Sunday 21 August

Disruption from the strikes will continue to affect customers into the morning of Sunday 21 August. Customers on lines affected by strike action are encouraged to avoid making journeys on affected services until after 08:00.

 

London Underground

    

Circle line

Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August

Trains will not stop at Paddington (Circle and Hammersmith & City line station)

Use alternative Tube services from Paddington (Main).

     

Hammersmith & City line

Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August

Trains will not stop at Paddington (Circle and Hammersmith & City line station)

Use alternative Tube services from Paddington (Main).

     

Northern line

Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August

Trains will not stop at Bank

Use Central, Circle or District line services to/from Bank/Monument.

London Overground

Saturday 20 August

No London Overground and Night Overground services expected.

Sunday 21 August

No service between Sydenham and West Croydon

Trains will divert to/from Crystal Palace after Sydenham. Use local buses, Southern Railway or rail replacement bus services for alternative routes.

No service between Hackney Downs and Chingford

Use alternative Tube or rail replacement bus services.

No service between Gospel Oak and Barking until 10:00

Use alternative Tube or local bus routes.

No service between Barking and Barking Riverside

Use local bus routes.

No service between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town/Cheshunt until 10:15

Use alternative Tube, local bus or rail replacement bus services. 

Monday 22 until Thursday 25 August

No service between Hackney Downs and Enfield Town/ Cheshunt after 22:45 each night

Use alternative Tube, local bus or rail replacement bus services. 

Elizabeth line

Sunday 21 August

Reduced service between Liverpool Street and Gidea Park

Reduced service between Paddington and Hayes and Harlington/Heathrow

Trains will not call at Acton Main Line, Hanwell and West Ealing. Use alternative Tube services or local bus routes.

Until late 2022

There will be no service on Sundays between Paddington and Abbey Wood.

London Trams 

Monday 22 until Wednesday 31 August

No service between Wimbledon and Therapia Lane

Tram replacement buses will run between Wimbledon and Waddon Marsh.

DLR

Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August

No service between Bank and Shadwell

Use alternative Tube, DLR and local bus services.

Buses and roads

 

Bus journeys will be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

 

Friday 19 August

Tunstall Road, Brixton

Filming will take place from 10:00 until 11:30 of Brixton Station on the opposite side of the road. Delays may be occur, use alternative routes where possible.

Friday 19 and Saturday 20 August

Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets

The All Points East Festival will take place at Victoria Park from 12:00 until 23:00. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.

Saturday 20 August

Parsloes Park, Dagenham

The Elrow music festival will take place from 12:00 until 22:30. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.

Copthall Playing Fields, Mill Hill

The 51st State Music Festival will take place from 11:00 to 22:00. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.

Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August

Wembley Stadium

Coldplay will be playing at Wembley Stadium. The entire concert will take place anytime between 12:00 to 23:00. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected. 

Gunnersbury Park

Festival Republic will be taking place from 15:00 until 22:30. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected. 

Finsbury Park

Latino Life In The Park will take place from 07:00 until 22:30. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected. 

Nine Elms Lane closure

From 03:00 on Saturday 20 until 23:00 on Sunday 21 August, Nine Elms Lane will be closed to all traffic between New Mill Road and Ponton Road while Tideway carries out essential work. A diversion will be in place and there will be some changes to bus services. The northern footpath will also be closed, with all pedestrians diverted to the southern footpath. Cyclists will have to dismount for a short distance.

Sunday 21 August

Chatsworth Road, Hackney

Chatsworth Road will be closed to host the Chatsworth Road Community Market. Use an alternative route where possible.

Burgess Park, Southwark 

The Carnaval Del Pueblo will take place from 11:00 to 21:30. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected. 

Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets

The In The Neighbourhood community event will take place from 10:00 until 21:30. Large crowds are expected. 

Cranford Community College, Hounslow

The Goan Cultural Event will take place from 05:00 until 13:00. Large crowds are expected. 

Until Sunday 18 September

Gas mains replacement works

Until 18 September, there will only be one lane open in each direction on Commercial Road between Henriques Street and Back Church Lane. There will also be no access to Christian Street or Batty Street from Commercial Road; residents can gain access from Fairclough Street. This is while Cadent Gas carries out essential gas mains replacement work.

Delays are expected and you are advised to plan ahead, leave more time for your journey and use alternative routes where possible. Please check status updates for the latest information on how roads are operating in your area.

Until late December 

A4 Great West Road works

Essential maintenance is taking place on the Cromwell Road Railway Bridge, which carries the A4 Great West Road over the railway between Chiswick Roundabout and Hogarth Roundabout, until late December.

There is currently one lane open westbound between Hogarth Roundabout and Chiswick roundabout. 

Allow more time for your journey, and where possible use A40 Westway and M40 between central London and the M25.
