Weekend travel information


If you are out and about over the Bank Holiday weekend, there are lots of public transport options. There is also some planned bus strike action, about which you can find more details below.

In this hot weather, please carry water with you and ask for a seat if you feel unwell.

The information in this email could change, so please check before you travel or use the TfL Go app to plan your journey. 
 

Bus strikes

 

Sunday 28 and Monday 29 August

Strike action is planned by London United drivers on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 August, which is expected to affect 63 bus routes, about 10 per cent of the bus network, mostly in west and southwest London, and parts of Surrey. This will include some routes serving the Notting Hill Carnival.During this time, please plan aheadcheck before you travel and leave more time for your journey.Services will run as normal:

  • On the night of Saturday 27 August until approximately 05:00 on Sunday 28 August
  • From 06:00 on Tuesday 30 August

Most other bus, Tube and rail services will run as normal, but are expected to be busier than usual.To see a full list of the affected routes and for the latest information, please visit our bus strike webpage.

 

Notting Hill Carnival

 

Sunday 28 and Monday 29 August

There will be some Tube station changes this Bank Holiday weekend due to the Notting Hill Carnival. They are:
  • Ladbroke Grove - closed on both days
  • Holland Park - closed from 15:00 on both days
  • Royal Oak - exit only from 11:00 until 18:00. Closed from 18:00 on both days
  • Queensway - exit only from 11:00 until 18:00. Open from 18:00 on both days
  • Latimer Road - closed from 23:30 on both days
  • Westbourne Park - exit only from 11:00 until 18:00. Closed from 23:30 on both days
  • Notting Hill Gate - exit only, and District and Circle line trains will not stop from 11:00 until 18:00. No interchange between the Circle and District line and the Central line all-day on both days.
 

London Underground

     

Metropolitan line

Saturday 27, Sunday 28 and Monday 29 August 

No service between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Amersham, Chesham and Watford

Rail replacement bus services will run.

London Overground

Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 August

No service between Hackney Downs and Chingford

Use alternative Tube or rail replacement bus services.

Saturday 27, Sunday 28 and Monday 29 August

No service between Surrey Quays and New Cross

Use alternative London Overground or local bus services.

Sunday 28 August

No service between Barking and Barking Riverside

Use local bus routes.

Monday 29 August

No westbound service between Camden Road and Stratford until 06:30

Use alternative Tube, London Overground or local bus services.

No service between Highbury & Islington and Dalston Junction until 06:15

Use local bus routes.

Elizabeth line

Until late 2022

There will be no service on Sundays between Paddington and Abbey Wood.

London Trams 

Until Wednesday 31 August

No service between Wimbledon and Therapia Lane

Tram replacement buses will run between Wimbledon and Waddon Marsh.

Buses and roads

 

Bus journeys will be affected by the following changes this Bank Holiday weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

 

Sunday 28 until Tuesday 30 August

Notting Hill Carnival

Road closures will be in place from 06:00 this Sunday to prepare for the two-day carnival. Road closures will be from Harrow Road in the north, Notting Hill Gate in the south, North Pole Road in the west and Queensway in the east. Roads will reopen at approximately 06:00 on Tuesday. 

Tuesday 30 August until Thursday 1 September

A406 Bowes Road closure

From 22:00 to 05:00 from 30 August until 1 September, the A406 Bowes Road will be fully closed eastbound at the junction with Wilmer Way and there will be no access from Wilmer Way to the A1110 Bowes Road westbound. This is while we resurface the road.

You are advised to plan ahead, leave more time for your journey and follow the signed diversions.

Bus routes 34, 184 and 232 will also be affected by the works. To board route 184, please use bus stops on Brownlow Road and to board routes 34 and 232, please use bus stops on Bowes Road near Pymmes Road.

Until Sunday 18 September

Gas mains replacement works

Until 18 September, there will only be one lane open in each direction on Commercial Road between Henriques Street and Back Church Lane. There will also be no access to Christian Street or Batty Street from Commercial Road; residents can gain access from Fairclough Street. This is while Cadent Gas carries out essential gas mains replacement work.

Delays are expected and you are advised to plan ahead, leave more time for your journey and use alternative routes where possible. Please check status updates for the latest information on how roads are operating in your area.

Until late December 

A4 Great West Road works

Essential maintenance is taking place on the Cromwell Road Railway Bridge, which carries the A4 Great West Road over the railway between Chiswick Roundabout and Hogarth Roundabout, until late December.

There is currently one lane open westbound between Hogarth Roundabout and Chiswick roundabout. 

Allow more time for your journey, and where possible use A40 Westway and M40 between central London and the M25.
