Camberwell Open House, June 24th 11am - 4pm
Open House is a welcoming, fun and FREE event open to all, offering members of our local community and beyond the opportunity to see our students’ work and take part in free art and design workshops. All workshops are run by Camberwell College of Arts’ experienced tutors and students. At Open House you can learn first-hand how to produce simple photographic images, create a stop motion animation or try out letterpress. In addition, this is a great chance to look round the Summer Shows following our map! Now in its 13th Year, Open House is a permanent feature on the Camberwell community’s events calendar. Exploding Cinema, Saturday July 1st @ 7pm
Now in its 25th year, Exploding Cinema is back at the Cinema Museum showing a programme of independent shorts submitted from all over the world. Drama, Documentary, Animation, Experimental, weird and wonderful share the main screen, while the rest of the walls (and the ceiling) play host to the Exploding Cinema’s legendary eclectic psychedelic visuals projection show. Marlene Dietrich; Ultimate Gay Icon Thurs July 6th @ 7:30pm
Marlene Dietrich was undoubtedly a superstar of Hollywood’s Golden Era – but she also was much more than that. By constantly reinventing herself, Dietrich stretched her career over sixty years becoming a pioneering star of radio, a medal-winning war hero, a top flight international cabaret artist, a big-selling recording star and an icon for generations of gay people round the world.
Marlene started her career as a chorus girl during the era of “divine decadence” in 1920s Weimar Berlin. The freewheeling approach to sexuality during that period suited her very well – she embraced the sexual liberation enthusiastically and never abandoned it through her long life. Her many lovers included men and women, and she never apologised or tried to hide her preferences. Famed as much for wearing men’s clothes as being a femme fatale, Dietrich’s cosmopolitan, sexually ambiguous and world-weary persona inspired many artists who followed. Madonna, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue and a thousand drag queens – they have all tried to channel Dietrich’s special allure. Find out more here

French Sundaes presents; Les Vacances De M. Hulot (1953) July 9th @ 2:30pm
A new season of French cinema – this time looking at a different type of comedy each month.
No French comedy line-up would be complete without the films of Jacques Tati. It’s summer, so it’s the perfect time for Les Vacances de M. Hulot (1953).
When the ever-hapless Monsieur Hulot decides to vacation at a beautiful seaside resort, rest and relaxation don’t last long, given the gangly gent’s penchant for ridiculous antics. While simply out to enjoy himself, the well-meaning Hulot inevitably stumbles into numerous misadventures, including an utterly disastrous attempt at playing tennis, as he encounters fellow French vacationers from various social classes, as well as foreign tourists. Misty Moon presents; An Evening with Linda Hayden & Robin Askwith Saturday July 15th @ 7:30pm
Film historian Darrell Buxton introduces an evening of conversation with actors Linda Hayden and Robin Askwith, whose careers and friendship have crossed paths for 50 years.
They have notched up some 50 films between them, from Baby Love (1968) and Cool it Carol (1970) to an eclectic mix of sex comedy, art house, horror, musical and the downright insane (see 1976’s Queen Kong!).
Their television careers have been just as assorted, with appearances in most of the top sitcoms of the 1970s, as well as drama series and playhouse productions.
In the theatre they have appeared all around the world, often sharing a stage. Find out more here
