We're reopening on 6 February We've missed you! After 10 months of improvement works, taking place behind our closed doors, we are thrilled to be reopening on Tuesday 6 February 2024. It’s taken six new show cases, 7,000 specimen moves, 200 conservation treatments, 350 new labels and many litres of paint. Come and visit the new displays next month, and find out how our collection continues to have huge impact on how we understand and learn from the natural world. New interpretation explores the Museum's role in conservation research, and highlights how the collections can inspire us to rebalance our relationship with nature. Tuesday 6 February (1-5pm) will be our first day of public opening, and our first Saturday opening will be 10 February (11am-5pm). Upcoming events in the Museum On Wednesday 7 February, we have a showcase evening presenting new collaborative arts and climate projects commissioned through UCL's Performing Planet Activism programme. On our opening Saturday, curatorial staff will be on hand throughout the Museum to welcome you, answer your questions and shed further light on the work we've been undertaking. In the February half-term, we are hosting a Family Event: Imaginary Habitats with Collage Club with artist Steph Hartman, exploring UCL's work with endangered habitats through the power of ripping, sticking and shape-making. And on Saturday 24 February, our Family Event: Wild, a Biodiversity Story delves into a web of ecosystems with an interactive and collaborative game inspired by UCL research. IWM's collections include around 16,000 works of art comprising paintings, sculpture, drawings, artist prints, photography, films and installations. The artists who produced this work do not belong to a coherent movement. Instead, they are linked by a common endeavour: to create an artistic record of war and to reflect their responses to conflict as a part of human existence. Here we explore ten compelling works by artists as eyewitnesses, commentators, participants and activists. Say hello to our new arrival in Gorilla Kingdom Today we're celebrating the arrival of a critically endangered western lowland gorilla baby, born to mum Mjukuu yesterday. London Zoo’s gorilla keepers were carrying out their usual morning duties when they first spotted that Mjukuu was in labour. Giving the experienced mum some space, they monitored her via CCTV cameras installed in the dens. Moments after giving birth in the privacy of their back dens, second-time mum Mjukuu was seen gently cradling her newborn, before allowing the troop’s curious youngsters Alika and Gernot to examine the intriguing new arrival. Be one of the first to see our new arrival and the rest of the gorilla troop with a visit to London Zoo this weekend.
