Medusa emerald |
A one-of-a-kind emerald, nicknamed the Medusa, has recently been put on display in The Vault gallery at the Museum. The Medusa was uncovered by Gemfields at the Kagem mine in Zambia in 2008.
Alan Hart, Head of Mineral Collections at the Museum, says, ‘The Medusa emerald is a spectacular example of natural emerald crystals with intense colour and high clarity.'

Animal Inside Out |
See the astonishing anatomy and inner beauty of some of the largest and most intriguing creatures in the animal kingdom.
Discover 90 plastinated and capillary specimens, from goats and giraffes to octopuses and ostriches. Get up close and explore their intricate insides.

Nature Games Weekend |
Waggle-dance like a bee, hunt for clues on the Museum trail or just sit back and cheer on players from the sidelines. In partnership with award-winning games design studio Hide&Seek, the Museum is offering family visitors a fun way to engage with science and the natural world.
Drop in to the Museum’s Darwin Centre, courtyard and Wildlife Garden between 12.00 and 16.00 on 25 and 26 August for free family-friendly, nature-inspired games. |

This summer, book free Dinosaurs gallery tickets before you visit.
Simply show your e-ticket, printed or on your phone, at the Dinosaurs gallery entrance. If you are unable to book in advance you can still visit the gallery by just turning up, but queuing is likely during busy periods.
