Dear Supporter,

As we begin 2021, we are delighted to share our NEW online exhibition:
The Unexpected Jewish Past of Strawberry Hill House, curated by Silvia Davoli. For most visitors, the House is synonymous with Horace Walpole and this online exhibition, through a selection of images and objects, highlights the lives of two of its historic owners: Frances, Countess Waldegrave and the Stern Family.

The Thames Luminaries online talks commence at the end of January, so don't miss the House's talk on Friday 5th February at 7pm: Horace Walpole’s ‘enchanted little landscape’ at Strawberry Hill by Dr. Marion Harney.

This February, we welcome a new Online Series of Talks as part of LGBTQ+ History month. This series explores the House, its occupants and our cultural understanding of LGBTQ+ during the 18th century. Speakers include: Cheryl Morgan, expert in trans history, Matthew Reeve, Associate Professor of Art History at Queen’s University and Dr Caroline Gonda, Fellow and Director of Studies, St Catharine's College Cambridge.

Finally, our Garden remains open Monday - Friday, 10am - 4pm to those who can visit safely. We have updated our garden boards, with things to explore and learn and visitors can also download our new Family Garden Trail

We hope you can join us during the next few months whether online or in the Garden.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

NEW Online Exhibition:
The Unexpected Jewish Past of Strawberry Hill House
Curated by Silvia Davoli

To celebrate the European Jewish Days of Culture, Strawberry Hill House has created an online exhibition to spotlight the contribution of two of its historic owners: Frances, Countess Waldegrave (1821-1879), whose father John Braham was an internationally famous Jewish opera singer; and Herbert Stern, 1st Baron Michelham (1851-1919), who belonged to a European Jewish dynasty of bankers.
