A Breath of Fresh Air: Introducing our 2021 Season We're delighted to reveal further details about our upcoming season with resident orchestra City of London Sinfonia, including casting and details of our new theatre.     In a year in which the creative arts have been forced to reinvent, we have collaborated with theatre designer takis to create a 400-seat performance space for the season. Built with sustainable materials, the layout gives audiences an immediate connection to the emotional drama of opera, while also being customised for safe social distancing, and providing greater accessibility. Watch the trailer and find out more here > The five headline operas in the festival trace an exhilarating route from the gardens of Andalusia via a country house near Paris and the vineyards of Alsace to the forests of Moravia, finally returning to the breezy and bracing West Country of England. The Marriage of Figaro Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart 1–26 June Mozart's faultlessly crafted comedy is bursting with insights into human nature. Former OHP Young Artists Elizabeth Karani (Susanna), Nardus Williams (Countess) and Julien Van Mellaerts (Count) lead the cast, joined by Ross Ramgobin as Figaro in this new production conducted by George Jackson and directed by Oliver Platt. Find out more → La traviata Giuseppe Verdi 5–29 June Rodula Gaitanou’s acclaimed 2018 production of La traviata returns to OHP in revival, reuniting conductor Matthew Kofi Waldren with Lauren Fagan (Violetta), Matteo Desole (Alfredo) and Stephen Gadd (Germont). The opera follows Violetta as she deals with love, money and moral codes, while Verdi’s music finds its way into our souls. Find out more →

The Cunning Little Vixen Leos Janáček 13–30 July Energised by Janáček’s exuberant rhythms, The Cunning Little Vixen captures the joys, thrills, fears and sorrows of our existence – whether or not we have a tail. Stephen Barlow, who has previously directed Tosca and Flight for OHP, returns, together with Jenni France (Vixen) and Julia Sporsén (Fox), last seen at OHP in the 2018 production of Ariadne auf Naxos. This production will be performed in English and conducted by Jessica Cottis. Find out more → L'amico Fritz Pietro Mascagni 16–31 July A feel-good romantic comedy set amidst cherry orchards and vineyards by the composer of Cavalleria rusticana, showing us Mascagni's gentler side and reminding us what friends are for. Adele Thomas makes her OHP debut directing this new production, alongside the Italian conductor, Beatrice Venezi. Kiandra Howarth leads the cast as Suzel, the girl next door who captures Fritz’s heart. Find out more →

The Pirates of Penzance Gilbert & Sullivan 3–7 August A co-production of The Pirates of Penzance with Charles Court Opera, directed by John Savournin, and starring Savournin, Yvonne Howard and Richard Burkhard. Chock-a-block with wit, charm and a treasure chest of hits, this Gilbert and Sullivan classic is scheduled to close the main season.
