To celebrate the opening of the exhibition Each Moment Presents What Happens (2022), a reimagining of John Cage’s 1952 iconic performance piece Untitled Event (Theater Piece No. 1), Johanna Billing alongside will be in conversation with writer and curator Judith Winter, and Whitechapel Gallery Director Gilane Tawadros.

The film and accompanying talk explore the notion of performance and the possibility it holds to explore issues of the public and the private as well as the individual and the collective.

Nicole Eisenman: What Happened documents the breadth of the artist’s career explored in ten newly commissioned texts with over 200 colour illustrations. Featuring essays from exhibition curators Mark Godfrey and Monika Bayer-Wermuth, who survey developments in Eisenman’s work since the 1990s, and Chloe Wyma, who considers Eisenman’s recent engagements with national and institutional politics.
