Borough Market - Merry Christmas from Borough Market

Merry Christmas from Borough Market

Borough Market is always a magical place, but particularly at this time of year. If you’ve been here for your Christmas shopping, you’ll know what it’s like to be swept up by the energy, the interaction, the high-quality food, the sense of both heritage and progress. As a charitable trust, our mission is to make that magic even stronger. We want this to be even more of a community hub, an even better place to trade and shop, and a beacon for inclusive and sustainable practices. To those ends, we’ve spent this year putting in place ambitious plans for the future, which we look forward to sharing in detail in the months to come.

To help guide our plans, we’ve defined Borough Market’s purpose as being “for community, the love of food and a better tomorrow”. I, and everyone at the Market, wish you a Christmas and New Year blessed with more than a little of the first two things and a promise of the last.

Recipes for a waste-free Christmas

No one likes to see good food being thrown away, but the spirit of generosity that’s so central to Christmas often results in tables so heaving that even to most waste-averse among us struggle to clear them. To help with that dilemma, Nadja Auerbach has created three simple recipes designed to use up any leftover turkey and sprouts, root vegetables and Christmas pudding.

McLaren’s Christmas Pudding

The eponymous treats at McLaren’s Christmas Pudding are wrapped and presented as beautifully as they are made. Each pudding is carefully made to the McLaren family recipe. The fruit is macerated for two days in brandy, Guinness and the zest and juice of fresh oranges and lemons, before being steamed for eight hours and matured for several months.
